This one is really long at 30 minutes, but it’s worth watching. At least I think so. I go into great length about various things happening in my life right now.
Again, I should just shut up about this and work on my novel on this subject, but it’s a lot of fun to talk about. Let’s get into the details of why I think Broad City should essentially make the telling of the ROKon Magazine story their movie.
Ok, the chief aspect of all of this is the dynamic between Annie Shapiro and her best friend at the time, Tahl, is very very very similar to that of Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson. Eerily similar. To such an extent that Ilana and Abbi would, in real terms, just have to play themselves. Their friendship is pretty much identical to what Annie and Tahl had.
Another aspect of this story that might interest Broad City is Talking Crap. Talking Crap was an impromptu comedy troupe of expats that ran around Seoul doing little videos. They were really, really funny and it’s difficult to tell the whole story of ROKon Magazine without including them.
Now, one thing is me. I am kind of the heavy in this story and the less you focus on me, the funnier this story gets. But if the producers of Broad City wanted the story to be kind of a tramedy, then they could tell it, warts and all, and that would be kind of deep.
Anyway, I am trying to work on a novel myself about this story, but it’s slow going. So slow, in fact, that by the time I actually finish it, Ilana Glazer may be too old to portray Annie Shapiro.
I need to just shut up and work on my novel on this subject, but this is just intriguing enough for me to keep talking about it a little bit more. If you know what I know about Annie Shapiro, then it makes a huge amount of sense for Ilana Glazer to portray her in a movie.
But, whatever. no one listens to me. Here is yet another little video I’ve done on the subject, though.
I am just psyching myself up to work on my novel — or procrastinating — one of the two. Anyway, here is another video of me talking a little bit about why the folks of Broad City might be interested in the ROKon Magazine story. I am working on a novel about what happened to me about 10 years ago, but it’s tough going. It’s a lot more fun to daydream this way.
I will try to be as brief as possible. I am psyching myself up to work on the novel I’m writing about this tale, if nothing else. Anyway, you see the dynamic found on Broad City is much like that between the Annie Shapiro and her best friend at the time, Tahl. So, it makes a lot of sense for the people who make Broad City to be interested in plopping the show — in a sense — in Seoul’s expatriate community.
Ilana Glazer’s character on Broad City reminds me a lot of Annie Shapiro from 10 years ago and she could in habit the character quite easily. I could go into great length about this, but I don’t feel I have the time. Anyway, here are some things I’ve written in the past about this tale: Somehow TheBattleofTheOldFreeStatev1.5
Pretty much all I want is Ilana Glazer to at least look into this story. Meanwhile, I need to work on the novel fast enough so she still looks young enough to play the part by the time I’m finished. 🙂
To be brief, I think if the folks of Broad City want to take their concept to the next level, they should tell teh story of what happened with me and Annie Shapiro in Seoul about 10 years ago. Here are two little videos that in their own rambling fashion tell why this is so.
